The ensamble includes the buildings of the riding school, the stables, the sheds, the orangery and the mansion. A magnificient garden with round pond and canals surrounds the estate.
Serednikovo is one of the most famous places in Russia where Mikhail Lermontov used to spend summer holidays. Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov (1814-1841) is a Russian writer and poet. Lermontov is supposed one of the leading poet of Russian literature alongside Pushkin.
There is a hypothesis that Lermontov’s ancestors lived in Scotland and probably were distant relatives of Thomas the Rhymer (Thomas Learmonth), the greatest Scottish poet. An exhibition devoted the Lermontov family, including links to the Scottish Lermonts, occupies several rooms of the main house. Another room is dedicated to Pyotr Stolypin, Lermontov’s distant relative, Russian political leader and reformer.
